The Vanity Fair

The Vanity fair is a series initiated in Zhongxin Market (忠信市場) in Taichung on a Lunar New Year's day. Freely inspired by the Dutch Vanities of the 17th century, this series of still lifes confronts the viewer with human nature, allegorical representations of death, the passing of time, the emptiness of human passions and activities. It is both an aesthetic and documentary research, in that I do not intervene (other than through the photographic act) on reality, each of these still lifes is the creation of those who inhabit the space. The objects stored, abandoned, intermingled, here and there, experience the marks of time and weather, and through their experience tell us a lot about who we are.
